HomepageCullen Will Transcriptions
Upton, Nottinghamshire
Jim Cullen

This page is in progress and is an effort to reorganize access to will transcriptions for Cullens in Upton, Nottinghamshire, and surrounding areas. I'm most interested in those wills of Cullen Family members descended from Richard Cullen of Upton, and whos wills were probated prior to about 1800. If anyone has relevant will transcriptions that they'd like to contribute, please contact us and we can have a page put up for your information fairly quickly. I will also be including Administration Bonds here when a will was not written. Perhaps these bonds are not as informative as wills but, as the available information begins to thin out, every little bit helps.

Wills: Cullen family members and close relatives, prior to about 1800
  • Richard Cullen (1580): Husbandman of Upton c.1540-1580. Long recognized as the earliest member of the Cullen Family in Upton, Nottinghamshire.
  • Thomas Cullen (1628): Yeoman and Churchwarden of Upton from 1600-1625. Widely believed to be the son of Richard Cullen above.
  • Susanna Cullen (1652): The wife of Thomas Cullen, Yeoman of Upton (c1573-1628). They were married in November of 1611 in Upton. There's lots of family detail in this will.
  • William Taylor (1674): William Taylor, Yeoman of Oxton. Married to Susanna, daughter of Gervase & Katherine (Robinson) Cullen, in 1671.
  • John Cullen (1696): Yeoman of Upton.
  • Katherine Cullen (1705): Administration Bond of Katherine Cullen, widow of Upton and wife of Gervase Cullen who died in Upto in 1665/66.
  • Gervase Cullen (1708): Yeoman of Upton and husband to Theodosia. A complex will with incredible holdings of real estate, indicating a high status in Upton.
  • John Archer (1712): Labourer of Upton, and father to Susanna Archer who married into the Cullen family.
  • Thomas Cullen (1715): Yeoman of Upton c.1652-1715. His family connection to the Cullens of Upton is not known for certain but we have some very good clues!
  • Gervase Cullen (1722): Yeoman of Upton. He was the nephew of Gervase (d.1708) & Theodosia Cullen in the will listed above.
  • Richard Cullen (1725): Victualler of Norwell. His wife was Mary. Listed children were: William, Elizabeth, Mary, and Anne.
  • Thomas Cullen (1773): Thomas Cullen the Elder, Yeoman of Upton (1703-1773). His 2'nd wife was Anne Pindar.
  • John Cullen (1805): Farmer of Upton (1703-1773).
