| Various Record Transcriptions for the Surname Cullen David Evans, Patrick Parkes, Gar Cullen, and others |
One of the records classes I went through while I was in Dublin was the "Green Sheets". These were the forms people filled in when they applied for the aged pension. They were checked against the 1851 (sometimes the 1841) census.
They are a valuable, but largely unused, source of information as occasionally the back of the form contains transcriptions of the 1851/1852 census. As far as I'm aware, they are only available in paper form in the National Archives.
Below are all forms submitted by Cullens.
The format is ...

Copy of Memorial #494166 of 7 January 1816 of conveyance between Jason, John, and Mary Parke (all of Castlecarr, Co. Leitrim), Charles Parke of Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo, and John Cullen, M.D., of Manorhamilton and David and William Cullen of Cloonaquin, Co. Leitrim. You will find this copy difficult to read; it is so because the original was badly written, with hard-to-read insertions. However, it clearly shows that Jason was the son of John Parke=Maria Sweeney; the farm at Derry in the Mullaghmore area came to John Parke from Thomas Soden; a lease existed between John Parke and Jason Parke and Jason's illegitimate son (also named John) giving him an allowance; provisions were made under Trust for the children of John Parke=Maria Sweeney -- Jason Parke and John Parke and his wife, Mary (maiden name not given but almost surely is Cullen since three Cullen men are named as Trustees) and their children Margaret Jason, Teresa Elizabeth, and Catherine. Land holdings named as collateral are in Derry, Co. Sligo and in Tullyneshanagh and Lurgantemple, Co. Leitrim.
In this deed, all three of the Cullens named as Trustees have been identified. William & David Cullen of Cloonaquin are two sons of the David Cullen who married Miss Heyland (from Bob Cullen's Cullen Pedigree). John Cullen, the medical doctor, was a cousin of William & David Cullen. John Cullen, M.D., was the son of Patrick Cullen & Miss Parke (daughter of William Parke of Castle Car). David Cullen (who married Miss Heyland) and Patrick Cullen (who married Miss Parke) are brothers; their parents were James Cullen & Miss McClelland. The Mary (Cullen) Parke ,who was married to John Parke, has not been identified but was almost certainly a Cullen. For more information, see the Pedigree File in the Irish Families pages.

"The new Cullen Lodge Museum is now open at the Manorhamilton Castle Heritage Centre, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. The beautifully restored building was originally the Gate Lodge of Skreeney House, the home of the Cullen family in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The museum has as its main theme a commemoration of the three main Christian traditions - Catholic, Church of Ireland and Methodist - in Manorhamilton down through the centuries. A short history of each tradition and its prominent members is supplemented by several photographs and paintings. There are informative profiles of many of Manorhamilton's famous, also less well-known, native sons and daughters.
These include Field Marshal John Count O'Donnell (1712-1784); Lieutenant Colonel John James Cullen (1793-1842); Private Charles Irwin (1825-1873), Victoria Cross recipient; Charles J. Dolan (1881-1963) the first Sinn Fein candidate who stood in the 1908 North Leitrim Election; Lord Jack Leonard (1909-1983) and Senator Gordon Wilson (1927-1995). The various texts were put together by Prin Duignan, Rev. C. J. Stevenson, Rev. Ian Henderson and Dominic Rooney.
The building also houses copies of two of the oldest maps of Manorhamilton dating from 1749 and 1807. The maps carry explanatory notes as well as lists of the town's inhabitants in the 18th and early 19th centuries! A copy of a recently discovered early 19th century print of Skreeney House is also on view, as well as items on loan to the museum.
A Bible Garden is being developed around the museum with the help of Rod Alston of the Rossinver Organic Centre, Co. Leitrim, and Fr. Brian Murphy of Glenstal Abbey in Co. Limerick. Plants mentioned in the Bible will be found in the garden with the relevant quotation alongside.
The Cullen Lodge Museum and Bible Garden are the latest additions to the impressive work that Tony and Maura Daly and family have created in Manorhamilton over the past few years in the Castle Heritage Centre which commemorates Sir Frederick Hamilton and the 1641 Rebellion."
