Related Cullen Families in Ireland (17'th to 19'th Cent)
These pages will be presented in various formats depending on the status of the research being done on them. As such, you are encouraged to forward any information you may wish to add to these pages. The bulk of the material thus far concerns Co Leitrim though related lines are known to exist for the areas around Co Wexford, Co Dublin and in Northern Ireland.
Co. Leitrim, Ireland : This special section of the Cullen Genealogy Homepage covers the Cullen families of Manorhamilton. This includes the line from Burke's and from the book "The Sligo-Leitrim World of Kate Cullen" by Hilary Pyle. Be sure to read the early history of the Cullens of Manorhamilton in "Pedigree of the Cullen Family", linked to below. These Cullens are descended from the same families in Co. Wexford that produced the Nottinghamshire, England lines of Cullens.
Dublin & Londonderry : Very little is known about these Cullen families except that they are related to the Cullens of Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim and to the Cullens of Nottinghamshire, England. Some of the individuals listed may even predate the arrival of Captain John Cullen, who is said to have arrived in Ireland with Cromwell in 1648 and founded the family of Cullens in Co Leitrim.
Family History of Cardinal Paul Cullen : Mainly Co. Carlow, Ireland. The greatest portion of the genealogical material for this page has been extracted from The Reportorium Novum by Peadar Mac Suibhne. Other bits and pieces were drawn from family histories, the Mormon IGI, and other sources. There are now separate pages of genealogical material for the descendants of this family as well as a new page of articles and biographies concerning the relatives of Cardinal Paul Cullen. Cardinal Cullen's family can not be connected definitely to my line of Cullens but the chances are good that the lines do meet somewhere early in the history of County Wexford.
Pedigree of the Cullen Family by David Cullen of Co Leitrim, Ireland (1860) : The original manuscript written by David Cullen of Lackagh Lodge in 1860 and updated by Robert Cullen, a descendant from Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1990. This family history stands on its own but overlaps and gives further details on the origins of the Cullens of Manorhamilton. Many of the details in this genealogy have been checked with other historical records where available and so far David's accuracy has been flawless. Lots of names here and a well written account.
