• Alicia Mary Cullen (1791 - 23 Nov 1831): Daughter of Hugh Cullen by his first wife, Elizabeth Murphy of Muinebegg. Alicia was married twice. Alicia's first husband was named Murphy and their children were: a son, Garrett Cullen, who married a Miss Corcoran; and two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret, both of whom were professed nuns. Alicia would later marry Patrick Moran (1775-18 Sep 1841), the son of Patrick Moran and Honoria Maher of Donore. The name Maher comes up a few times in this family of Cullens. Alicia and Patrick had three daughters and two sons. One daughter, Sarah, married Patrick Cummins. Another daughter, Teresa, was a Dominican nun. One son, Patrick Francis Moran (16 Sep 1830-16 Aug 1911), was the future Cardinal Moran, Archbishop of Sydney and Australia's first Cardinal. Cardinal Moran was born in Leighlinbridge and died in Sydney, Australia. He studied at the Irish College in Rome and was the Vice Rector from 1856 to 1866. He returned to Ireland and was secretary to his uncle, Cardinal Paul Cullen. In 1872 he was named bishop of Ossory in Kilkenny and, in 1884, Archbishop of Sydney (Australia). The next year he was named cardinal priest of Santa Susanna. Cardinal Moran's parents, Patrick and Alicia Moran, are buried at Ballinkillen, Ireland.
  
  
• Edward Cullen (~1795 - ~1807): Died as a child. Edward, and the others listed below, are children of Hugh Cullen by his second wife, Mary Maher.
  
  
• Michael Cullen (~1796 - 11 Jun 1876): Married Ellen Whelan (22 Oct 1807 - 14 Oct 1877), daughter of P. Whelan of Mount Tallant, Dublin, around 1828. Michael established a branch of the family in Liverpool. Michael and Ellen had one son and three daughters. The daughters were: Kate, born 1838 and died 17 May 1924; Mary, who died Jun 1958, was married to Edward Browne and had two sons and one daughter; Margaret, of Liverpool, born 1840 and died 20 Dec 1911. The only son of Michael and Ellen was Hugh Cullen, who married Elizabeth Leonard (~1838 - 12 Jan 1888), daughter of Patrick Leonard of Co Meath, on 9 Feb 1858. Hugh Cullen, of Liverpool, was Director of the Bank of Liverpool. The children of Hugh and Elizabeth were:
  
  
  • Rev Michael Cullen (23 May 1859 - 20 Feb 1940): Port Chaplain, Malta 1903 - 1904 and Rector Jesuit House, Dalkeith 1922 - 1937.

  • Sister Mary Teresa Cullen (27 Sep 1866 - 7 Jul 1940): Sister Mary of Charity. In Dublin, during the Easter Rising of 1916, she suffered an eye injury while tending to those in need. She also founded the magazine Virgo Potens.
  • Joseph Cullen (17 Apr 1869 - 21 May 1891): of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • Elizabeth Cullen (4 Oct 1871 - 28 Jan 1898): Sister of Charity, Dunmanway, Co Cork.
  • Thomas Mary Joseph Cullen (25 Jan 1874 - 27 Jan 1874):
  • Teresa Cullen (25 Dec 1875 - 23 Apr 1939): Married Charles George of Edinburgh on 8 Sep 1897.
  
  
• Kate Cullen (~1797 - 02 Aug 1879): Married in 1815 to James Brophy of Rathmore, Co Wicklow, son of Michael Brophy. They had at least one child, a son, Hugh Brophy, who married into the Reilly family.
  
  
• Catherine Cullen (born ~1798): Died young.
  
  
• Brigid Cullen (born ~1798): Married John Keatley of Blackrath, Co Kilkenny and had several children. Among them were: a son, Paul Kealty who married Margaret Kearney, the neice of Cardinal McCabe (Cardinal Cullen's successor); and a daughter, Ellen.

• Rev Mother Johanna (Agatha) Cullen (~1800 - 10 Feb 1885): Johanna was Mother Superior of the Presentation Convent in Co Kildare.
  
  
• Mary Anne Cullen (~1800 - 19 Dec 1938): Married Peter Verdon on 27 Mar 1826 and together had four sons and four daughters. Their youngest son, Rt Rev Michael Verdon, born in 1838 in Liverpool, was the future 2'nd Bishop of Dunedin, in New Zealand. Peter Verdon died 04 Jun 1858. Peter and Mary Anne had a granddaughter, Alice Chamberlaine, who was Mother General of the Sisters of Charity. She died in 1930. Thomas' wife was named Coffey (of Co Westmeath) and they had five children: Mary, of Dublin; Julia, died 18 Jan 1885; Paul, of Liverpool, born in 1832 and died 13 May 1891; Rev William Cullen (died 24 Sep 1890), secretary to his uncle, Cardinal Cullen, from 1874 to 1878 and compiled the first written history of the family; Sister Margaret Cullen (22 Nov 1839 - 10 Apr 1911), St. Vincent's Hospital in Dublin.

• James Cullen (bef. 1809 - 27 Dec 1886): One of the residents of the now ruined Liscarton Castle at the heart of Co Meath. James Cullen married Kate Lynch and they had three sons: Thomas, who died in Nov 1936; Hugh (1861-1937), married 23 Jan 1888 to Mary Hester Colgan (died 17 Feb 1937); Paul (died Jan 1945), future President of Castleknock College. Burke's indicates a fourth son, Rev Edmund Cullen, who died in 1936. (This was the Rev E.J. Cullen who served in France in WWI. You may read a transcript of a letter he wrote to his niece Catherine in 1915.) James and Kate had also six daughters: Alice (1859-1931); Mary Anne (died 9 Feb 1906), who married Mark Delaney of Co Wicklow on 11 Sep 1873, having three sons and four daughters; Agatha, who died 26 Jun 1918; Margaret Frances (died 3 Apr 1897), who married Frederick Clayton on 15 Nov 1882, having four daughters; Mary Kate, who died 16 Apr 1889; and Josephine, who married William Delaney on 22 Jan 1897, having one son and two daughters. Kate Lynch, wife of James Cullen, died 14 Aug 1887. The children of Hugh Cullen and Mary Hester Colgan were:

  • Pauline Cullen ( - 1970) : Married Frederick Gaunt in 1918 and had one daughter.

• Garrett Cullen (1809 - 21 Nov 1869): of Tara Hall, Co Meath. Married Anne Gargan, daughter of Thomas Gargan, on 29 Jul 1846. Garrett and Anne had two sons and six daughters. The sons were: Hugh, who died Aug 1921; and Gerald, said to have died in Australia. The daughters were: Mary; Margaret, who died 28 Jan 1930; Johanna; Alicia (died 1938), who married Thomas Reddy and had one daughter; Nannie, who married Thomas O'Keefe on 13 Sep 1883, having two sons and one daughter; Catherine (died 27 Nov 1949) of Prospect, Co Kildare.
